Although licence plate accessories are ancillary products for vehicles, they directly impact the stability, service life, and safety of licence plate installation. With vehicle owners increasingly demanding higher quality in vehicle details and the refinement of traffic management regulations, this sector is poised to benefit from dual opportunities for product innovation and market expansion.
In terms of product categories, licence plate accessories have evolved into three distinct segments: ‘installation and fixing’, ‘protection and safeguarding’, and ‘functional enhancement’. Installation and securing products have evolved beyond basic screws and nuts to include innovations such as smart anti-theft screws and vehicle-specific mounting brackets. Smart anti-theft screws feature specialised serrations requiring specialised tools for removal, effectively preventing licence plate theft or unauthorised replacement. Some variants incorporate embedded chips that trigger vehicle anti-theft systems to sound alarms if screws are removed abnormally. Vehicle-specific mounting brackets are customised to match the structural features of licence plate mounting locations across different models (e.g., the curvature of saloon car bumpers or pre-drilled mounting holes in SUVs). This ensures a seamless fit with the vehicle body, preventing loosening or rattling caused by improper installation.
Protective products undergo functional optimisation for diverse environments. In rainy, high-humidity regions, waterproof and rust-resistant licence plate covers dominate. Crafted from transparent polycarbonate with over 95% light transmission, these covers maintain licence plate recognition while delivering IP67 waterproofing to prevent rainwater ingress at the plate-body junction, thereby inhibiting metal corrosion. In snowy, frigid northern regions, anti-frost and anti-fog licence plate films have emerged. Their surfaces feature specialised nano-coatings that effectively prevent frost formation and fogging on licence plates in low-temperature conditions, ensuring clear recognition by traffic surveillance equipment. Furthermore, scratch-resistant licence plate films have gained popularity. With a surface hardness exceeding HRC 3, these films withstand damage from stone chips and minor abrasions, prolonging the plate's aesthetic integrity.
Functionally enhanced products further improve convenience. For instance, adjustable-angle licence plate holders allow owners to fine-tune the plate's orientation based on parking inclines or vehicle height, ensuring optimal visibility for traffic monitoring systems. Licence plate auxiliary lights with illumination features suit older models or low-light night-time scenarios, emitting soft, non-glaring illumination that highlights the plate without obstructing the view of following vehicles. Certain premium accessories incorporate smart features, such as licence plate condition monitors linked to the vehicle's infotainment system. These devices detect loosening or damage in real time, alerting the driver via the dashboard display to enhance road safety.
From a manufacturing perspective, the vehicle registration accessory industry is prioritising ‘environmentally friendly materials’ and ‘production refinement’. Regarding materials, ordinary plastics prone to ageing and fracture are being phased out in favour of eco-friendly ABS resin and high-strength aluminium alloy, increasing product recyclability to over 80% and aligning with green consumption trends. Production techniques, such as precision injection moulding and CNC machining, ensure dimensional accuracy. For instance, mounting bracket hole tolerances are controlled within ±0.1mm, preventing installation difficulties caused by dimensional deviations. Looking ahead, with the proliferation of new energy vehicles, accessories compatible with their larger (longer and wider) licence plates will become a key R&D focus. Concurrently, aligning with vehicle intelligence trends, smart accessories featuring data transmission and status monitoring capabilities are poised to emerge as new growth drivers for the industry.
